"Real name is Nick Harris, having been nicknamed Boris by friends at school after a cartoon called Boris the Bold on the TV at the time.
In my very early days as a teenager I was very into my Northern Soul, Motown and Funk, frequenting several all-nighter venues. I then moved out to Africa for many years, where all this became a desert (literally)
Forward to 1995 on settling back in UK. A friend to me to the then Café Tabbac in Cheltenham where weekly Hard House and trance night was running, Phill Chillum and Phantasia crew were on it then, and so became I!
Years lost in club land then followed Sundissential in early days when Tony De Vit (R.I.P) was a resident, Bakers, Money Pennies in Birmingham, then the Depot in Bristol. All this was a mega time for me. As music styles fused with each other, a production called Ripsnorter at the Depot pulled me in regularly once a month, with banging tunes and always top quality acts. I used to be found making a nuisance of myself when the DJ’s finished playing, pestering them for any cd demos. This seemed to pay off as I started to get myself a bit if a collection of music. As luck would have it I managed to pick myself a beat up old club mixer and started mixing (is that what you call it!
I practised in my room where no one could hear me, and did a few parties for friends, bordering on shambolic. My enthusiasm continued on to buying a pair pf Cd’j 1000’s. Wow what a difference to have something up to date and new
A production called Tribe of Frog were putting nights on around Bristol at this time of which I soon became a member, I loved this new psytrance sound that was developing from the sometimes dark and sinister almost inaudible sound it seem to have before, now all my previous music tastes all seem to be fusing into one
A friend of mine asked us to go along to Toadstool, at a venue in Cheltenham at the Well, having got talking to Nick 'the Toad' Hughes, I was over the moon when asked if I would like to help with future events, which I did for several months, always keeping a keen eye on the techniques used by our DJ’s and putting them in to practice at home
Finally on my birthday 25th Nov. 2004 I was given my debut slot at Crackers in Glos, it was terrifying with that barking P.A, but what a buzz. Three gigs later they gave me a residency; I will always remember the words of the Toad. If you wanna play psytrance, stick with me! And I haven’t let go since
Still today I never cease to be emotionally moved and amazed at the fantastic vibe that our DJ’s and crew manage to create, making it an honour to be part of."
